Walk Around the World - Derwent Valley
The Derwent Valley Walk is along a former railway track and shadows the river Derwent. The walk passes through woodland, meadows and alongside ponds and riverside areas. It is wheelchair accessible and is level and easy to walk except for a short steep section at Rowlands Gill.
We are starting the walk at the Swalwell Visitor Centre on the B6317, beside Blaydon Rugby Club (see map). There is parking available at the centre. We are walking as far as Rowlands Gill whsere we can stop for a drink and there are toilet facilities. Then we turn back and detour around Derwenthaugh Park, landscaped on the site of the old Derwenthaugh Cokeworks.
The day promises to be a great walk, good company and the opportunity to raise funds for UK families to experience this life-changing and most effective programme.
At the end of the walk, why not come back to my place for a bite to eat and rest your weary feet.
